* The primary purpose of this Internet resource is for disseminating power outage information in the event of widespread power outages or local power outages affecting a high percentage of people. Electric cooperatives report power outage information to the state of Iowa during significant power outages according to Iowa Administrative Code 199-20.19. It is under these circumstances that the outage map will be populated with electric cooperative member-consumer-owner power outage information. Power outages below those prescribed levels will not always be reflected on this outage map for all individual electric cooperatives.

When large amounts of customers in the cities and towns served by Alliant Energy or MidAmerican Energy, the two investor-owned utilities in Iowa, are impacted by storms or flooding, but electric cooperatives are not, this power outage map may be populated with power outage information so people who are interested can see if any folks in rural and suburban areas served by electric cooperatives are without electricity.

During widespread or isolated power outages effecting many people, individual electric cooperatives intend to update their power outages at 8 a.m., 11 a.m., 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. This map will automatically refresh every 10 minutes based on outage data reported by individual electric cooperatives. Your best source of outage information relative to your individual electric service will continue to be your electric service provider.
